This year, I will be starting middle school. I am so freaked out. I just got a letter in the mail today with a lot of information on it from Handy Middle School. As I read it, I started to cry, and said, "I wish I had done really bad in 5th grade for the last marking period, then they wouldn't have passed me. I want to still be at Kolb Elementary." I'm afraid either I'll do bad in school, my locker parter will be horrible, I'll get lost in the school, I won't know where to go at the end of the day to find my mom or dad, I'll be late for class and get in trouble, exc. I just want to be in the 5th grade again. Most of you are done with school, so I thought I would come here for advice. I don't have any big sisters, so that doesn't work. I just wish I had a sister who was 1 or 2 years older than me, so I know that I'm not alone in the school and I would feel better about finding my mom or dad at the end of the day. I have a ton of cousins, but I only have 1 who lives around here (Who I actually see.) and he's handicapped. If you guys could please give me advice, it would be greatly appreciated.

Kay, first thing is - Calm down. Going to middle school isn't a problem - you might meet new friends - if your locker partner is bad, don't worry about it, your a very nice person, I bet you can get them to like you. Ok, second thing, change your attitude, girl!!! You will NOT get lost in the school, you will NOT have a bad locker partner, you will know where to go at the end of the day to find your parents. In the package that you received - did you get a map?? My middle school was really big, when I received the welcome package, I studied the map, and I became familure with the school - after a while, it was easy to go from place to place within the school. Just think postive, I know now, it might seem scary to you, but, I bet after a couple of weeks when you start - you will enjoy it. Hope that helped you at least a little bit.

It did help a little bit. I'm still crying, and now I can barely see the keyboard because everything is blurry. Nope, we didn't get a map. The school I'm going to next year is huge and it used to be a High School. Now, I wish I had picked Western as my middle school though. It is soooooo much smaller than Handy. I'm sure I'll get used to it after a couple weeks, but it's a huge change from elementary school to middle school.

Yes, that is true, it's a huge change but it also means that your growing up now.
Ok, no map, no problem - you probably will get used to it.
trust in yourself. That is all you need to do. Things will go well.
When do you start?

hey,Kay
your starting middle school no biggie
if you are late for class your teachers will understand you had trouble finding your class. You seem like a great kid before you know it you'll have a bunch of pals. If your locker pal is not so great just ignore it (trust me it works.I know, I'll be in 8th grade this year)
P.S Kay don't worry middle school isn't Rocket science

Hi Kay, Let me tell you something. When I left elementary school to go to Middle School I was really really scared. I had the same fears as you. And yes I also cried and cried. So in September I went to that "big" school. And the first day of course everything was new to me. But starting the 2nd day, I made friends, found the classes I had to be in by asking some older kids. Sure I was late for a class a couple of times but the teachers knew I was new. After a while I really started to like it there. I did well in school, played sports after school and I had made really good friends! Don't worry Kay really it will be ok. It turned out great for me, I met my best friend there and I just graduated and I'm going to college in the fall, another big step for me. But I'll know I'll be ok and so will you, trust me on this one! Sarah

I'm doing much better. Now, all I'm worried about is being late for class. If you are late 4 times in a class, you get detention. And I have always been such a great student, I have never gotten in any BIG trouble, I got in many fights, and ended up talking to the teacher with some other kids, but that's it. Now, I'm afraid I won't make a good first impression and the teachers will think I'm a bad kid.
